Nonprofit Susie’s Coats Provides Winter Coats for Kids in Toledo and Beyond

Nearly 30 racks of coats in all sizes and colors were lined up neatly alongside overflowing bins of hats, gloves, and socks outside 443 Sixth St. in East Toledo on Saturday morning.

Helping Hands of St. Louis will hold their annual Winter Coat Fest on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the parking lot of 443 Sixth St. in downtown Toledo.

As a child, Susan Perry experienced things children shouldn’t know about — domestic violence, poverty and homelessness.

The line of Toledoans waiting to pick out free winter coats snaked its way through the halls of Jones Leadership Academy and out the door into the chilly November morning air.

Susan Perry, director of University of Findlay’s sonography programs, was recognized on April 4, 2019, for her excellence in serving her community through her nonprofit organization Susie’s Coats.

With snow and colder temperatures in the forecast, it’s important to remember there are a lot of people in our region who don’t even have a winter coat to help keep them warm.

On Nov. 10, we had the pleasure of volunteering to distribute coats, hats, scarves and gloves to men, women, and children in need of warm winter apparel with Susan Perry, founder of Susie’s Coats.
