To the editor: Susie’s Coats a blessing

On Nov. 10, we had the pleasure of volunteering to distribute coats, hats, scarves and gloves to men, women, and children in need of warm winter apparel with Susan Perry, founder of Susie’s Coats. This was the 12th year she and her band of volunteers have been buying, collecting, mending, and distributing coats and warm apparel to our community with no questions asked.
On that cold Saturday morning, the line went around the building as families waited their turn to receive coats. Many were there for their children so they had a coat to wear to school. As the need in our community grows each year, it is harder for Susie’s Coats to keep up, but Ms. Perry never waivers from her mission — to make a difference in someone’s life. To have a warm winter coat is such a simple thing to most people, but, for some, it makes a huge difference. It brings warmth, comfort, and security in harsh, cold weather. We are so proud to be Susie’s Coats volunteers and to work with such a compassionate, giving person with a very big heart.
